Letter from the Headteacher

Dear Colleagues & Parents,

Everyone must read and act upon this advice

regarding the imminent flu pandemic.

Any member of staff or child experiencing flu-type symptoms should not come into work/school until the symptoms have gone and Contact must be made with NHS Direct for up to date advice. The same applies if another member of the household has flu-type symptoms.
Staff must advise the school immediately via the cover line number. Staff must also phone Coverline again to tell us what advice you receive from NHS direct. The school will phone back any staff that are affected in this way so staff will need to leave their contact details.

Parents must advise the school immediately of flu-type illness in the household via the special email link which has been added to the school website.

We MUST:

Take hygiene measures to reduce the risk of infection spreading (cough or sneeze in to a tissue or similar and dispose of in to a bin, washing your hands afterwards. We will be making an initial issue of tissues and anti-bacterial gel to staff (subject to availability) for their use  and for use by the children in their care. We will increase the cleaning maintenance of washrooms and ensure soap and hand drying facilities are operational. We will employ an extra day time cleaner to continuously clean handles, switches, rails, etc around the buildings and site. Hygiene notices will be posted in key places around the school.

Ensure that staff showing any signs of infection go home;

Ensure that children showing signs of infection are taken home or collected by parents

Monitor absence rates & patterns (statistics and reasons for absence)

Action by teachers (leading classes period 5 today AND again on Tuesday at the end of PSHCE)

Staff are being provided with basic hygiene advice which MUST be read out to ALL pupils and teachers MUST also check that all the pupils understand the message.

Holidays & Short Breaks

Staff intending to travel abroad MUST let the school know now (or as soon as known) any foreign places they will/may be travelling through (cities and country). Staff MUST email their travel plans to LWI@cranford.hounslow.sch.uk.  Staff must also inform the school if members of their household are travelling abroad. Emergency Planning

Today and periodically thereafter throughout the flu alert, we will further update our emergency plans as necessary and ensure all necessary arrangements are in place to respond. We shall work with the local authority regarding how the school will manage infection control or closure due to pandemic should this become necessary in the future.

All updates will be posted on the website and therefore it is advisable to check the website on a regular basis.
