??? Haidian delegation visits Cranford December 2010
Haidian District is a suburban district of the municipality of Beijing, lying to the northwestern part of city. It is 431 square km in area, making it the second-largest district and is home to 2,240,124 inhabitants and is where most universities are located.
On Friday 10th December 2010 a visit organised by Cambridge Education, of a delegation of 17 headteachers from both the primary and secondary sector in Haidian visited Cranford. Community College
They were welcomed by the school and the year 7 Mandarin Chinese group, who took the opportunity to practise their language skills.
The Chinese headteachers learnt about the school system here and were impressed by the range and breadth of our curriculum and by the creativity of the students as witnessed in the school song. The highlight of their visit they said was the walk around the school, which delighted the delegates, particularly in the ADT area where a group of year 9 students were cooking a Chinese stir fry. Led by the year 7 Mandarin Chinese group, they saw a wide range of classes and commented on how engaged in their learning the students were.
Their visit finished off with a presentation by Peter Stumpf on Ofsted and school self evaluation. The group thoroughly enjoyed their visit and went away with a very positive view of the school. We hope to be engaging more closely with some of the schools in the future, and the primary schools in Haidian were very keen to work with our primary feeder schools.
Cranford supports the Tamil Association by ensuring they have a GCSE equivalent exam through our link with the NCSF. If you are interested to find out more please contact the Head of Community Languages, Ms Narinder Kaur nka@cranford.hounslow.sch.uk

We were contacted by Ellen Quaye, a former teacher of DT at Cranford, who now works for the YPLA (Young People’s Learning Agency) to see if we were interested in a presentation by SP Jain. S.P. Jain Institute of Management and Research (SPJIMR) is a constituent unit of the Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, which was founded in 1938. Based in Mumbai, it is an organisation offering the chance for very able students at the age of 18 or 19 to join their Global bachelor of Business Administration degree, taught on the Singapore and Sydney campuses. Govind Shorewala came in to have a familiarisation visit to the school and the 2 students who showed him around the school decided to take the online assessment. Dhruv Sayani will be gave a presentation on 3rd December 2010 to AimHigher students, who may be eligible for sponsorship based on their academic profile.
We are looking forward to long lasting collaboration opportunities with SP Jain.
